Survey Field & CAD Assistant
We’re hiring a Survey Field & CAD Assistant to support both our land surveying crews and AutoCAD drafting team. This role offers hands-on experience in the field collecting data and in the office learning to turn that data into professional engineering and land development plans. It’s ideal for someone who’s curious, detail-oriented, enjoys working both outdoors and indoors, and is excited to learn from experienced surveyors and CAD technicians.
Location:
On-site at 27 W. Church Street, Blackwood, NJ 08012. This is not a remote position.
Responsibilities:
Fieldwork:
- Assist in conducting field surveys using total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, and automatic levels.
- Help set up and operate survey instruments to measure distances, elevations, and angles.
- Support topographic, boundary, and construction layout surveys.
- Record accurate field notes and observations.
- Maintain equipment, tools, and vehicles.
- Follow all safety guidelines and procedures.
- Assist in downloading, organizing, and processing survey data.
- Learn to draft base maps, topographic surveys, and boundary plats using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Support project managers and licensed surveyors in preparing plan sets and exhibits.
- Help with project documentation, QA/QC reviews, and basic computations.
Office/CAD Work:
- Assist in downloading, organizing, and processing survey data.
- Learn to draft base maps, topographic surveys, and boundary plats using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Support project managers and licensed surveyors in preparing plan sets and exhibits.
- Help with project documentation, QA/QC reviews, and basic computations.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Environmental or Mechanical)
- Licensed Professional Engineer
- Five years of experience in a Civil Engineering discipline
- Professional level proficiency in AutoCAD
- Professional level proficiency with Civil 3D
- Professional level proficiency with HydroCAD
- Intermediate level proficiency with typical office software, including: Google Workspace, Microsoft Word and Excel, Adobe Acrobat
- Valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Licensed Professional Engineer in NJ and/or PA
- Familiarity with municipal, county and state regulatory agencies
- Seven or more years of experience in the Land Use Development discipline
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Land surveying experience is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Prioritization, with the ability to analyze, judge and adapt to changing needs
- Excel in a team environment
- Professionalism with a willingness to assume increased responsibilities
